Revolutionizing Coast Guard Training: ASI Brings revolutionary Training to ATC Mobile

Tampa, FL (June 9, 2025) – ASI is supporting the U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center (ATC) in Mobile, Alabama, by demonstrating an advanced, immersive training solution designed to enhance pilot readiness and mission success. As part of this effort, ASI partnered with industry leaders Aechelon Technology, RealTime AeroTech, and Varjo to equip our MH-60T Reconfigurable Flight Training Device (RFTD) with state-of-the-art capabilities.

The RFTD features Aechelon’s latest high-definition image generator (IG) integrated with their Global Commercial Database—offering unparalleled visual realism and fidelity. In addition, RealTime AeroTech provided their Brownout Simulation Server (BOSS™) and Real-Time Wind Server (RTWS™). BOSS dramatically improves the visualization of Degraded Visual Environments (DVE) due to brownout, while RTWS provides wind model data for complex flight scenarios such as shipboard operations and low-level flight to ASI’s high fidelity Host simulation. To provide a truly immersive experience, the RFTD is outfitted with Varjo’s cutting-edge XR-4 mixed reality headsets, known for their ultra-wide field of view and industry-leading clarity. This powerful combination significantly enhances the realism of critical training tasks, such as hovering, navigation, and mission rehearsal.

Following its debut at the 2025 Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Mission Solutions Summit in Nashville, the upgraded MH-60T RFTD was transported to ATC Mobile for field evaluation. For the next 30 days, U.S. Coast Guard pilots from across the country will assess the system’s performance and its impact on training effectiveness.

One standout feature being closely evaluated is the immersive visual field enabled by the XR-4 headset. The expansive field of view provides pilots with a more natural and accurate perception of movement and environment—especially during low-altitude and precision maneuvers like hovering—offering a major leap forward in simulation realism.

Following the evaluation period, the Coast Guard will determine whether to implement this enhanced technology into their existing MH-60T Cockpit Procedures Trainer (CPT). ASI plans to continue working to advance aviation readiness and safety through innovative training systems. For more than 20 years, ASI has supported ATC Mobile by providing revolutionary training systems, modifications, upgrades, and sustainment—demonstrating long-term commitment to delivering mission-critical solutions that evolve with the needs of the U.S. Coast Guard.
