Sikorsky VH-3D / VH-60N
Devices 2F180 & 2F181

  • New Trainers with Intel PC-based computer systems running Linux
  • Incorporated complete Avionics Management Systems (AMS) into the simulations
  • Simulate VH-60 Communications System Operator (CSO) station
  • Delivered two (2) high fidelity containerized devices, providing two (2) years of Interim Contractor Support (ICS) and Contract Simulator Instruction (CSI)
  • Devices have full, networked HLA interoperability in custom visual and threat databases
  • ASI received a contract from the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in April 2000 to design, produce, and deliver two Aircrew Procedures Trainers (APTs). These high-fidelity devices replicate the physical and performance characteristics of the VH-3D and VH-60N Helicopter Squadron 1 (HMX-1) Executive Helicopters flown by the US Marine Corps. Each APT provides a fully functional cockpit mock-up surrounded by a three-channel continuous-display out-the-window visual image. The visual system replicates day, dusk, night, and Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatible scenes featuring highly detailed imagery of key operating areas that is correlated with the simulated threat environment and the in-cockpit radar simulation. Each APT simulates the ground handling, takeoff, flight, and landing characteristics of its design basis aircraft in normal, faulted, and emergency operations. The two APTs can be networked to simulate flying a joint mission or can operate independently. Each trainer includes an Instructor/Operator Station (IOS) having a Graphical User Interface. The host computer system is based on Pentium III processors running the Linux non-proprietary operating system. The VH-3D APT (Device 2F180) provides training for the pilot and copilot, while the VH-60N APT (Device 2F181) provides training for the pilot, copilot, and Communication Systems Officer (CSO). Each trainer can be operated by flight crew without having an instructor present. Each APT is housed in a pair of military vans so that it can be rapidly transferred to any location desired by HMX-1. The VH-60N APT was delivered to HMX-1 in 2002 and the VH-3D was delivered in 2003. ASI completed two years of Interim Contractor Support including Contract Simulation Instructors in April 2005.
